What Is Trauma-Informed Pelvic Floor Therapy?

If you’ve been through trauma, it’s completely normal to feel unsure—or even guarded—about starting pelvic floor therapy. You might be wondering if it will feel too invasive, too fast, or like another situation where you’re not fully in control. Trauma-informed pelvic floor therapy is designed to be the opposite of that experience.

Here, nothing is assumed and nothing is rushed. We’ll start by listening—really listening—to your story, your concerns, and what feels safe for you. You are always in control of what we do and don’t do. That means no unexpected techniques, no pressure to try anything you’re not ready for, and no requirement for internal work unless you explicitly choose it. Your comfort, your boundaries, and your pace guide every step.

What makes this approach different is that I understand your symptoms aren’t “just physical.” Pain, tension, and bladder or bowel changes can all be influenced by your nervous system and past experiences. Instead of pushing through symptoms, we focus on helping your body feel safe enough to let go of them—using a combination of education, gentle movement, and optional hands-on care when it feels right to you.

This is a space where you don’t have to explain or justify your hesitations. You don’t have to be ready for everything on day one. You just have to be open to starting in a way that feels manageable. From there, we move forward together—at your pace, with your voice leading the way.

“…She has such a nurturing, trauma informed approach that made me comfortable even with internal work. She normalized what I was dealing with and empowered me to do at home exercises to help me make the most of our work together. She even showed my husband ways to support me in improving and strengthening my pelvic floor. I can’t thank Tori enough for making it possible for me to finally not dread my period!.”

"My first appointment was amazing. I learned so much that I didn't know about my body as a 42 year old woman! Tori was great - made me feel comfortable immediately. It took my 1 year to make the appointment because I was scared. Wish I had gotten in sooner because the things that I learned in just my first appointment were incredibly helpful with my prolapse. Made my follow ups and looking forward to the next appointment."
